WWF Greece is seeking a Senior Marine Associate to help shape and advance our marine work at a pivotal moment for the protection of our seas. This role is at the heart of our conservation efforts, with a broad view across marine priorities and a strong external footprint.
Location: Athens, Greece (hybrid working possible)
Contract: Full-time, fixed term (with possibility of renewal)
WWF Greece is seeking a Senior Marine Associate to contribute to the effective delivery and coordination of its marine conservation work in Greece. The role contributes directly to WWF Greece’s efforts to safeguard marine biodiversity and improve the effectiveness of conservation interventions in the marine environment, with a strong focus on the effective management of marine protected areas, conservation of marine biodiversity and evidence-based management.
What you will do
Based in Athens, this role sits within WWF Greece’s marine team. As part of an interdisciplinary team within the WWF network, you will work closely with colleagues from all departments of the organisation and with long-standing partners to ensure that conservation actions are credible, coherent, and deliver real impact. You will also interact closely with the regional marine programme of WWF, the Mediterranean Marine Initiative.
In this role, you will coordinate projects from planning to implementation, monitoring, and adaptive management, ensuring impact management and accountability. You will also support strategic planning, contribute to fundraising efforts, and represent WWF Greece in external fora. You will help strengthen partnerships with institutions, scientists, civil society, and decision-makers, and contribute to WWF positions on marine protected areas and marine biodiversity, where relevant to conservation objectives.
What you bring
This role is suited to someone with substantial professional experience in marine conservation, marine ecology, or environmental management, with a strong understanding of the Greek marine environment and conservation challenges. You should have experience working on the design, coordination, and implementation of conservation projects and be able to translate and scale scientific and technical knowledge into practical recommendations and messages.
You should be comfortable operating in complex, multi-stakeholder contexts. You should bring leadership experience, excellent communication skills in Greek and English, and the confidence to act as a spokesperson on marine issues when needed. You should be able to work with autonomy and sound judgement, while respecting collective processes, and demonstrate a clear commitment to WWF’s mission and values.
What we offer
The opportunity to contribute to high-impact marine conservation work in Greece, within a collaborative and mission-driven environment, professional development opportunities within an international NGO network, and a competitive NGO-sector compensation package.
